With the help of all co-authors, we show a new trick in Mtb’s playbook, reshaping its inner architecture to adapt to its niche 🔬

Importantly, not all Mtb strains are equal, though. We found that some strains form MIMs much more efficiently under the same conditions ⚖️

Why does this matter for infection? We found that when Mtb is packed with MIMs, it actually dampens inflammation inside host cells 🤫

MIMs show up when #Mtb senses nitrate! You can think of them as extensions of the bacterium's inner membrane into the cytosol, which let Mtb tune its metabolism to external signals. 🔄
