I hate that “Oscar bait” has become a staple complaint for highbrow movies. Don’t get me wrong there are some egregious offenders out there but in 90% of cases it’s plainly just shorthand for “This is clearly a good movie but I personally didn’t get it/it’s not for me therefore it can’t be good.”
