(Here are some flags so that faschist can get out before bothering me 🇸🇩🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️)

I didn't post this here but I made a bowl with some indie games that are dear to me. That's the post, keep being awesome devs and artists ✨️

Maybe I'll do another one this year with new games to draw 🤔

Just finished 1000xResist. Really impressive experience ! I think it will stay in my mind for a while. Didn't understand everything but that was a really nice trip, and figuring out "what is what" was such a cool feeling !

Thank you devs for your work ! You put your heart in it, Hair to hair

I don’t want to say to much about the game but it is a very touching story and really grounded with the reality of creating a game, the precarity and pressure of trying to do it for a living.

And the last one I want to talk about is Goodbye World. My god this game is something…And more people need to try it, that’s the whole reason why I make this thread I admit. Where to start.

I wanted to talk about this game because I don’t see a lot about it but it’s actually really interesting as a game study and giving the basic for someone about making games. And the story is actually super sweet because you make a game for someone important to you.

The game is actually about creating an experience fun for him by finding a good balance between stress and joy. It’s actually a game about understanding the concept of flow, hold/release and a lot more.

How about we talk about Takeshi and Hiroshi ? This game is about a boy who as a sick brother that need to stay at the hospital for a while. He decide to create a video game for him : a turn based RPG.

I’m really looking forward to playing The beginner’s guide, which looks like an even bigger brain twister. And also difficult to explain
December 6, 2024 at 8:33 PM
So you start the game but not really, actually someone started the game before you did so you have to wait to play next. You are on the backstage of the game, the game “director” is actually in trouble because every technician left (for bad working conditions so, there’s that).

Do you know about Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist ? It’s a long title, but it’s also a game about making a game, and create an experience for someone. And I love the idea.

What I find fascinating with this approach is how the game is not really about making a game interesting, but trying to get the perfect match between different criteria based on completely arbitrary vision. You don’t make original games, you make games that will sell.

And little by little, grows to become at the end a big AAA studio. So it’s really about the myth of becoming a big game company after starting as an indie. How does the game work ? You create “concept” of games (you never do them and see them).

The game that made me want to do this thread is Game dev Tycoon. Why ? Because it is a game about making game, yes, but it is also a game that show us how game creation was perceived in 2012 when it came out.

It’s a game about a game developer who start by working alone in his/her garage.

When it comes to Dreams, well I never played it and I wish it would come to other thing that PlayStation. Especially because media molecule is an awesome studio and their games are all about community.
December 6, 2024 at 8:33 PM
I’m going to talk briefly about Dreams and Game builder’s garage, two tools that are almost game engines by themselves. There, the idea is to give all the necessary tools to make a game that can be shared and experienced easily.

That’s because Wario is not the only one making games, and all his buddies are putting their games too, and I find this idea really cute. It’s chaotic, but it’s human in a way !

You want a scroll bar ? How about a ninja on a scroll then (it still count as a scroll technically, right ?). I would love to do game jam one day on this software, it's really neat.

One other example that I adore is Wario ware DIY. This game is a simple tool to make micro games that are then used in a Wario Ware format (micro games back to back that last like 5 seconds max). Everything in this game ooze charm and is really not your typical designer tool.

It doesn’t explicitly talk about game dev, but while you play a level made by nintendo, you can have that sudden realization that, yes, someone made that for you !
December 6, 2024 at 8:33 PM
So let's start with games that give you tools to create your own games. Mario Maker is one example of this concept, and it is a "game about creating games" and mostly designing levels.

It’s an excellent way to teach level design and test the limit of what is considerate a “Mario like level”.

Hello everyone ! I wanted to make a little thread about something that I find very interesting :

Games that talk and teach about creating video games !

How do we represent developers, workers, what image do we present of our job ?

This one is for all my fellows Gamedev out there ! 💭🎮
