Under final moments
of day’s departure,
geese took flight
toward eastern skies,
to welcome the Sun
upon returning,
in the Golden Hour
of tomorrow morning.

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day - honoring those who walked these lands in tune with nature for centuries before the Europeans’ arrival and who continue to fight as caretakers of Mother Earth.

Conservation areas do more than just protect nature and the habitats of plants and animals.

They also help preserve our Souls.

I watched in awe,
a red-tailed hawk,
spread wide its wings
to circle,
the towering, sun-pierced
steeple,
of a remote, forest
cathedral,
while parting clouds,
divinely dressed,
in pristine white vestments,
performed a blessing
upon all of nature’s
humbled creatures.

The government shutdown may have affected some national park services - like closing visitor centers - but it can’t take away the scenic views, wildlife and the wondrous nature experienced while biking the towpath trails this evening.

Like a platinum locket
adorning the chest
of an enchanted lover,
the ascending Moon dangles
from a serene, enamored sky.

Chipmunks and squirrels,
rummage through leaves,
harvesting acorns like thieves,
while I forage these woods,
before day’s expiration,
seeking slivers of inspiration.

Taking a break from yard work to catch up on a little college football.
Somebody looks a bit tuckered from playing in the backyard.

There’s a unique peace,
when surrounded by trees,
of which I’m extremely grateful.

A persistent wildflower
beckoned me,
to promptly come over,
as it waved in the breeze.
“You there, I bid you to sit,
pull up a log, rest a bit.
“Take some time,
and admire me,
for in few weeks,
per my destiny,
I’ll wither and fade
yet, hopefully,
bloom continuously,
in your memory.

Been fortunate with wonderful hiking/trail-trekking weather the last few weeks.
And, according to the “The Farmer’s Almanac,” the Lower Lakes region will continue to experience a ‘cool and dry autumn.’
Great news for those who love spending time outdoors.

The trees only need,
to look down
at their feet,
to realize autumn,
is quietly approaching.

Picked some borage (starflower), chives, mini-sweet peppers, and mint from the herb garden to use in tonight’s dinner of cast iron pan-seared tuna steak, mandarin orange juice/soy sauce-drizzled rice, wasabi and curry sauces and green and mint tea.

On an overgrown trail
I was walking,
I spotted monarchs
frolicking,
flitting and fluttering
in the Autumn sun,
across the tops
of withering wildflowers.

There were nights
I could so easily,
stretch above and clutch,
a crescent Moon…

and yet,
found it hard,
to reach out and touch,
Her tear-soaked cheek.
