Other general thoughts i think its cool to see the sun as a sort of transmission booster thats a very novel concept, and also when starting this book I wasn't expecting to revisit logic gates again (NAND, XOR, etc) first time I've come across them since my Computer Science Uni Days 😂

As usually these sort of things act as motivations but she was already very pro-extinction motivated before finding out she was pregnant.

But I think that was also the end of the Red Coast flashbacks. I am still wondering what relevance the author had for giving Ye Wenjie a child who has now already deceased as she seems more of a main character.

We also know the 3 body problem was actually in reference to the 3 suns in the VR game. But, this seems like a very elaborate way to get people who are pro-colonists rather than pro-natives recruited into the organisation. So there has to be something more at play here.

But hey atleast we know why Pan Han wanted to speak to Cheng, given his murdery tendencies.

But we now know why we're at war as the aliens are coming and were invited in by Ye Wenjie. Apparently the ETO have "The Lord" which infers there's someone above, perhaps whoever they have been reaching out to of the Trisolaris?

And even like 20 years ago was pro-extinction.
The book does a very good job of not making any of the characters truly hateable.
The hermit mathmetician (who married Shun Yufei, RIP) also got some backstory but we just know hes a prodigy and married out of convenience, not sure how he will fit in.

Maybe just the chosen few are spared. Very up in the air.
Oh also we spent all that time thinking Ye Wenjie was some old dear who got mistreated her whole life (which admittedly the start was pretty rough which informs why she is pro-extinction) she is actually the figurehead of the ETO!

The first chapter today started with a murder! And apparently there is this organisation called the ETO which has Adventists and Redemptionists, Adventists seem to want the human race to be made extinct but Redemptionists (assumedly) want there to be some sort of redemption for the race?

Bunch of theories were incorrect, the VR "game" was actually just a way of sorting those who would join team conquer us aliens. Which is a wild turn.

So a few questions how they'll tie into the story also beyond driving the plot forward, but they seem integral.
Basically a 1/3rd through the book so have many questions and will defo keep reading next week...

Speaking of scientists we've been introduced to a few such as Din Yi (who is the bf of the dead daughter), Shen Yufei (who seems like an antagonist now but i suspect this will change), Wei Cheng (Yufei's husband and some recluse??) and Pan Han (who wants to talk to Cheng but was blocked??)

As we're still not clear what happened there and assumedly it was classified so that could reveal many more questions (and probably not many answers😭)
