roof vs ceiling

🟣 A ‘roof’ is the top structure of a building that you can see on the OUTSIDE.

Example:
🔹A cat had climbed on top of the roof.

🟣 A ‘ceiling’ is the surface INSIDE a room that you can see when you look up.

Example:
🔹 I don’t have air conditioning, but I do have a ceiling fan.

I was recently asked if there was an expression which described people who are extremely close friends.

My answer was:

➡️ as thick as thieves

Definition:
People who are close friends and share secrets.

Example:
Since starting on the new project, those two have become as thick as thieves.

As part of my daily German practice, I use transparent.com to explore a new “word of the day,” complete with an example sentence and audio. 🔉

I also read a page or two out loud from a German novel. 📖

When something is so bad that no one, not even a person I dislike, deserves to experience it.

Example:

🏝️ What would you take with you to a desert island? 🏝️

We use Conditional 2 to talk about unlikely situations and its probable result.

If + past simple, ...would + infinitive

EXAMPLE: If I were on a desert island, I would take a radio with me to listen to the news and music.
