I always feel bad for some VAs of the time since I bet they'd be a lot better off if they had better direction.

I think the dub is actually pretty nice. I'm always very lenient on if a dub is "good" or not, so I find these obscure dubs from the era really charming. Any time they have an odd fake accent for a character, it shows they cared enough to have some goofy fun with it.
