Tales from the streets, 1970s children’s lit, rag-rugging, canal cruising, crushing the patriarchy and other diversions
That feeling when your transport network knows that things are not right and you know it is somehow on your side. Bravo TFL!

The smaller the room, the greater the need for visual diversion: wallpaper, pictures, books...

So Trump's dementia is now so advanced they're having to label all the rooms in the White House? Sad!

Forget nice Mr Bates from the Post Office, Toby Jones is more Norman Bates in as a brutally helpful Iago in the Haymarket's Othello. Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point; Sherlock) is a standout Emilia, as is the colourful design and steeply raked stage that makes characters loom oddly large and small

And here's the hidden treasure!

This is the bureau/desk - very large and very heavy. Interesting shadow of the fancy metalwork now around the locks on the drawers behind the much simpler (and presumably later) handles

Well, this made me feel super relaxed about whatever else is coming down the pipeline...

Been a year (on and off; also had grandchild) but yesterday, I completed my first rag rug

In Hackney, the Town Hall steps allow you to bang pots and sing along to Pete Seeger in seated comfort and even the rabbis are pro Palestine.

Not necessarily portable. Was delighted to end up with some random great-uncle's set of Shakespeares, but a little daunted by the fact each volume is almost too heavy to lift.

When shopping online, I try to use incognito mode so I'm not bombarded with ads for a thing I just bought for weeks after. That said, I'm enjoying these random metal sculptures after buying something to fix the shower

Sex, Lies and Videotape is on Netflix. I last saw in in 1989, and time has not diminshed the pulchritude of young James Spader. Soderburgh was 26 when he won the Palme d'Or for it, and it still feels subversive in its reversal of the sex-based rules and roles of the genre. Time to revisit Secretary

I am not kidding you...

On my Weaver Line journey this week, I was surprised to hear the announcer called it the Beyonce line. Now, after a few days of excitement, cowboy hats and random singalongs, I will totally feel the loss when normal service resumes. Thank you to all the Cowboy Carter fans. You are the best!

Christmas 2017 - as I remember, this was the ‘great quantities of cheap brandy’ year

Absolutely ready to plunge into Joyce. This version has old/new page numbers table at back, so covered for all eventualities. Roll on June!

The missing link between The Beatles and Oasis (as I think Stuart Maconie one said). Also, Noddy Holder's biography manages to be both endearingly candid and and absolutely eye-opening – particularly the bit about earning money by catering to gents with extremely peculiar habits. Love it!

Anarchy? Is that what Biffo is trying to sell us?

Who had front bench denials of Starmer cosplaying Enoch Powell, an even bigger racist than Farage on their 2025 bingo card?

Have read #PrivateEye since the early 70s, and love this absolute blinder of a cover - four great jokes at less than £1 each

Children's play areas getting increasingly sophisticated – stage your own Edward Hopper is a challenge for most under-fives, but I think the red tractor nails it

Is it childish to be as delighted as I was by this neat alteration of notice on a bus door?
