The UHD disc has a new transfer with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos options. Extras on the discs are light. The 4K disc has an audio commentary by two film scholars (this is not surprising as much of the cast has passed since its release). The blu-ray contains two archival interviews and the trailer.

That said, the actors, singing, dancing, and costuming and make-up are incredible and worth muscling through the rest. Just click your heels three times and repeat ‘It was made with good intentions that, unfortunately, aged like milk’.

Included were a vast collection of original Japanese TV spots and trailers that were almost as much fun as the movie itself. There are also 'making of' videos and an absolutely fascinating reel of deleted special effects and tests. After you watch the movie do not miss the extras.

The bad news is there are literally no other extras on this disc. None. Not even a trailer. A film that has been around this long should have a lot of material available. The Shout Select label itself really shouldn't be used for a barebones movie disc in 2025. Still a good upgrade of the film.

Shout Select brings it to 4K disc for the first time with a spectacular new transfer presented in Dolby Vision that is massive leap in picture quality over all previous blu-ray releases. The grain is clear and sharp and the vivid colors of Tommy really pop. That's the good news.
