Our new data shows that in @leicesterliz.bsky.social's constituency 44% of kids live in poverty.

Liz has the power to change this, she is one of the MPs responsible for developing a strategy to tackle child poverty. To have impact this strategy must include scraping the 2child limit.

This weekend marks the 8th year that the two-child limit to benefit payments has pulled families in to poverty.

Over this weekend the policy has now pulled a further 30,000 kids into poverty since @uklabour.bsky.social came to power.

We highlighted this outside The Treasury to the Chancellor.

I wish this was an April Fools joke. But it is not.

Children in poverty, and people in receipt of disability benefits are not two separate groups. If the govt wants to reduce the number of children living in poverty they need to ensure that the benefits system is properly funded.

New figures released by the government today are shocking. Child poverty has reached a new record high with 4.5 million children falling below the poverty line in the year to April 2024. This is an increase of 100,000 from the previous year.

In response to the government's announcement today on plans to cut incapacity and disability benefits, we have issued the following statement- highlighting how these cuts could deepen child poverty.

We also share concerns from young people, living in poverty, who will be impacted.

We have made it on to @bsky.app. Expect lots of post about UK child poverty - esp the need to scrap the two-child limit, a policy which has been in place for 7 unhappy years. A policy which also pushes families into poverty. Scraping this would lift 300,000 children out of poverty straight away.
