I've not been to that part of Europe myself, but I think my most visceral reaction to a British war memorial was in Cirencester, mainly because of how enough room was left under the dedication that they chiselled in an extension for WW2.

TIL that 'Mad Jack' Churchill, the WW2 commando officer famous for wielding a broadsword and bagpipes, a) spent some of his youth in Hong Kong, and b) has a Bacon number of 3. Apparently he appears as a background extra in the 1938 film 'A Yank in Oxford', as does *checks notes* Jon Pertwee.
