OP isn't wrong, but whenever I see images of medieval beekeepers, my first thoughts always gravitate towards @evandahm.bsky.social's The One Electronic (T.O.E.) and that one Neutral Milk Hotel album cover.

Bookish problems: I got too excited about @emilytesh.net's new book and accidentally ordered two.

2025 book 57: When We Were Real by @darylwriterguy.bsky.social

In April I went to a book signing in SF & met the author. I wasn't familiar with his work, but liked what I heard & bought his latest book. So glad I did! A FANTASTIC read. I only wish it was longer so I could read more of it.

2025 book 51: The Truth by Terry Pratchett

I'm actually pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this one. Probably in my top 10 Discworld books. I really didn't care for Moving Pictures, so my expectations for the next Industrial Revolution book were quite low. Glad to be proven wrong!

2025 book 50: Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next) by Dean Spade

Part of this one were really great, but there were also large portions that were really frustrating. An okay jumping off point, but I imagine there are better options out there.

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

This one's a script, but OH WHAT A SCRIPT! Hansberry was an incredible talent and the world was a lesser place for her early death.

All done! I had fun making the thread. I hope you had fun reading it!

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

My wife found this one and introduced me. It has definitely impacted how I see the world and there's no going back. Would highly recommend if you haven't read this or any of her other books yet.

2025 book 49: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

A re-read, but my 1st time listening to the Stephen Fry's narration, which was a delight. It's been years since I read the series, but I remember the 1st being my favorite, so I'm debating if it's worth continuing...

2025 book 48: To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers

This was the 2nd Chambers book I read and, after Psalm, I was kind of disappointed. However, as the years have gone by and I've read it a few more times, it's settled and I appreciate it a lot more than I used to. Good stuff.

I love the Monk & Robot duology so much. I wish I could just cozy up in that world forever.

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

This was an author recommended by a friend that has become very influential - I would consider this my favorite, but his science books were the most influential (and are an excellent crash course for many fields of scientific study).

Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou

You can't go wrong with Maya Angelou. For her, I didn't know where to start and this was what was available at my library at the time. A good introduction, I think. Still have a lot of her books left to read, though...

2025 book 46: A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

Re-reading an all-time favorite. This book was particularly revelatory for me. The conversations about purpose made me reshape my worldview. Very grateful to Becky Chambers and would very much like to live in this world.

2025 books 43 & 44: Don't Sleep with the Dead by @nghivo.bsky.social

Did I read this twice in a row? Yes. Will I read it one more time before the week is over? Very possibly. This is how I consume new Nghi Vo books. Has anyone else read it yet? I'd like to discuss the final sentence.

2025 book 41: Falling Back in Love with Being Human by Kai Cheng Thom

I can see why this is well praised & there are parts of it I truly enjoyed, but, when it came down to it, this book as a whole was just not my cup of tea. Even so, I think this book will mean a lot to many. Just not me.

A Little Devil in America by Hanif Abdurraqib

We've made it to nonfiction!

Little Devil was the perfect entry point for me to Hanif Abdurraqib's work. He is truly the most talented living nonfiction author that I'm aware of. This Time Next Year brought his writing to a whole new level.

To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf

I don't think Virginia Woolf needs any introduction at this point. I like to read her when I feel like I'm not getting into my character's heads enough in my own writing since she's the master of the extreme version of that.

Tin Man by Sarah Winman

Great googly moogly, I didn't know what I was getting into when I picked this up. It's devastating in the most beautiful way & it lead to my reading my all-time favorite novel: Still Life! The author was an actor first, so the audiobooks for both are excellent.
