Is there a Mac alternative to video editing in Adobe? My wife might not switch but is like to present alternatives

I think that because the formatting is wonky over different programs... Is that maybe an antitrust issue? Are they possibly doing something on the file type or the program itself to be uncompetitive? Or maybe a new file type standard needs to be adopted that can't be displayed differently?
