Did you know that from a one meter squared area of leaves left retains about 20 moths, 300 parasitic wasps, over 100 spiders, 400 beetles and ONE THOUSAND FLIES. 🪲🦋🐞

First plant sale of May will take place in the parking lot of Wild Birds Unlimited on Saturday, May 31. (Since we will be using the parking lot for the sale, patrons are asked to park on the street or at West Central Dental, half a block east at 12110 107 Ave NW). #Yeg

What's blooming now? Viola rugulosa! This pretty little perennial spreads via rhizomes into a lovely, early blooming ground cover. It also is great for containers!! Shade tolerant as well. #Yeg #Plantnative #Gardening #Alberta #Nativeplants

Visited a site I'm stewarding in the river valley of Edmonton. The city hasn't been managing invasives along our riparian areas and banks and things like birds foot trefoil ( invasive plant ) are bullying our natives like this here Silverweed, Argentina anserina, which helps fight erosion.

Speaking of Lepidoptera, are you familiar with our local beautiful Pink Primrose moth? From larvae to adulthood, this moth spends most of its life on Oenthera Biennis, an evening blooming primrose species.
