All the comms things — pitch news, livestream

Comms/public policy dual-wielder, law-curious Nashvillian yelling into the void about media literacy, local news, democratic participation, and education.
That's basically the premise of the Two-Step Flow of Communication Model.

The rectangle rots our brains *and* informs us of the rot irl.

When speech is punished—even if it isn’t hateful—and dominant narratives are amplified by media and social media, it can feel like there’s only one majority view.

If dissent risks your job or invites harassment, most people go quiet, deepening the spiral.

I always looked at Anthony Burgess’s “Honey for the Bears” as just a Cold War satire set before my time but I guess I need to start looking at it as a blueprint.

Also I’m pretty sure the most dangerous spots we went to in DC were the Supreme Court and the Exorcist Steps.

We tend to get stopped a lot to help folks out, but we always do what we can. The poor and the homeless aren’t vermin to be driven out of DC like some would want, but people. At one point in our nation’s history, we knew how to help each other.

The last time I was in DC, John and I walked absolutely everywhere. We drove into the city, parked at our Airbnb on H Street and walked all over the city each day. We had to cross through some sketchier spots to get everywhere we were going, but it really felt more safe than home.

Cultivation Theory says that heavy, long-term media use shapes viewers’ perceptions of reality to mirror what they consume. Fox News hasn’t just cultivated a loyal voting bloc—they literally shape damn near all of the president’s reality and worldview at this point.

I’ve been doing comms for about 10 years and still deal with imposter syndrome all the time. Thanks to Charlie, I can at least take solace in the fact that I’ve never tried to sanewash racism.

Still too pregnant to drink, unfortunately, but we’ve still got political hangovers today. Time to eat Waffle House about it.

Turn off CNN and tune into Under the Desk News for good vibes election results programming that will also teach you how the election works in these different states and time zones.

There’s nothing like trying to early vote in a red county in a red state and having to listen to Heritage Foundation propaganda about election integrity from some boomer election worker in need of a hobby for 30+ minutes.

Can’t stress enough how much state agencies *need* to share their updates somewhere other than Twitter.

I should be able to get live updates from TDOT without giving muskrat my ad dollars.

This probably doesn’t mean much to most folks, but I cannot tell you how much it matters to me that my husband can finally get a free cookie from Doubletree. It’s a trivial perk that comes with your hotel stay, but for someone with egg allergies, it’s near impossible to find baked goods in the wild.

I'm always happy to advocate for greater media literacy instruction in K-12 education, but NEVER at the expense of literature appreciation.
