What are the chances they all sport some sort of tattoo or brand, like with that NXIVM cult guy?

Mythological, not historical.

It is in their interest not to ignore DATV, given that it closed a big story arc, which will technically allows them to take the franchise basically anywhere.

People said this at some point about virtually every existing DA chapter. Then a lot of people changed their minds over time.
January 23, 2025 at 5:16 AM
That's a silly comparison, because that was 15 years ago - basically different epochs in gaming, or the Internet, or almost anything really.
January 23, 2025 at 4:13 AM
DA Inquisition sold several million in first months - the rest of 12 million trickled over next 10 years
January 23, 2025 at 3:57 AM
That's the thing - people have been saying it again and again and again, and they are still here.

What's more, many of the games that were supposed to be BW's death knell or brought as an example of BW magic being dead usually are looked at much more favorably after silly "BW is dead!" crowd leaves
January 23, 2025 at 3:56 AM
And in places like Twitter folks mostly talk about what they usually do - characters, and I see a lot of fanart on my messy, un-curated feed.
January 23, 2025 at 2:56 AM
Internet isn't the same as they was 10 or 15 years ago, so trying to compare them is a fool's errand now that fandom is so fragmented
DAVe is also a chapter where we got a lot of answers/conclusions to things people speculated about, so it's only normal for there to be as much lore talk
January 23, 2025 at 2:55 AM
See, and yet despite DA2 being your personal favorite it's also a fact that a lot of people felt about DA2 the same way you feel about DAV. The atmosphere was so hostile in fact, one couldn't even say they liked the game on the original BioWare-owned forums, because they were shot down immediately.
January 23, 2025 at 2:51 AM
They've thrown the same accusations at DA2 and DAI as they do at DAV (DAO too, but most people don't remember how people complained at it).

IMO, just like the rest, DAV will stand the test of time.
January 23, 2025 at 1:06 AM
The social messages and its handling in DAVe got way, wayyy overblown, and - just like any other DA to date - people will look at it in a few years with fresh eyes, just like they did with DA2 and DAI, because despite its success, 75% of complaints about DAVe mirror that of DAI.
January 23, 2025 at 12:23 AM
All I see is vague estimates.

Also, yes, DAI sold really well in first months, but it only reached its 12 million number after around 10 years. So, there is time to recoup costs, particularly that DA is a series, and Veilguard is a finale to a (so far) 4-part story.
January 23, 2025 at 12:20 AM
Dude, Elon Musk's family were literal Nazi sympathizers who escaped to South Africa after their views became unpopular. They supported Apartheid.
January 23, 2025 at 12:01 AM
It didn't fail anything, because the game is still selling and will keep selling.

Also, again: your context makes no sense. It's not like DA devs were sitting on their hands for 10 years, that's not how it works. One of the reasons DA was delayed was because they were working on MEA and Anthem.
January 22, 2025 at 11:50 PM
Didn't you see Early Access mentioned in an earlier reply? EA is what helped advertise BG3 a ton.

Also, Honor Among Thieves is doing really well right now. This should tell you something about writing off a game/movie that doesn't do crazy numbers in the first months as a "flop".
January 22, 2025 at 11:45 PM
This makes no sense whatsoever - DA isn't the only franchise BW makes, nor is the only game they released in past 10 years - also, 10 years ago it was DAI's time to sell; why is DAV made to look like it needs to recoup costs of both DAI and DAV???
January 22, 2025 at 11:30 PM
And it's basically entirely irrelevant to what I'm talking about. Nobody really cares about BG1 or 2 when playing BG3.

D&D is a powerhouse and it was it and BG3's Early Access that helped BG3 get where it is, not BG1&2.
January 22, 2025 at 11:10 PM
Only BG3 wasn't dormant - it has a long Early Access period which resulted in a lot of word-of-mouth spread across gaming spaces, which is the best sort of marketing. D&D is popular too, and Honor Among Thieves came out not long before the game.

Basically, what BG3 did is's the opposite of dormant.
