Last week, we had the privilege of working alongside a phenomenal team of volunteers and partner organisations to bring health awareness and cancer screening to Mutorashanga.

This event meant a lot to us — honouring Emma, who sadly lost her battle with breast cancer.

All I wanted to do was get back to Africa. We had not left it, yet, but when I would wake in the night I would lie, listening, homesick for it already ― Ernest Hemingway

And so we return to our roots and look to the future with hope.

The magic of Mutorashanga from a Khoisan kopje. The rainy season brings with it a sigh of relief and rejuvenation. Evenings like this remind us of why we started and offer a glimpse of what is at stake.

Our mission is to restore the land that mining has affected and preserve landscapes.

This Spotted Eagle Owl’s 🦉 habitat is threatened by mining.
Perched on a fence pole, he watched us watching him for ages.

We’re planting where once mining took place to rehabilitate the land and bring back the biodiversity.

Visit www.emstree.org to find out how you can support restoration efforts.

Combretum zeyheri, the large-fruited bush willow, or Muchenje in Shona were the first species we sowed in these tall sleeves.

Known for its medicinal properties and used in basket weaving, this is a small to medium sized tree native to Southern Africa.

Watch this space for signs of life! 🌱
