It's nothing old school cool, but I have a page from Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's Nightwing run. The Kraken statue really spoke to me.

Used Citadel contrast paint for the blues, Vallejo for the armor silver and copper. Then coated the scale mail on his thighs and arms with some TurboDork!
