Aereth Yurren is not a woman the modern Vulsrians were ever meant to understand. She is Aften-born—shaped by the old ways beneath Mt. Kaaldor, where dire wolves still run and the gods feel close enough to touch. The Aftens, descended from Aften Oakheart, “The Wolf of the Gods’ Armies,” are seen by modern Vulsrians as brutish, uneducated relics. Yet in the shadow of Kaaldor, they remember a different truth: it was Machius who betrayed them, not the other way around. Aereth grew up in Lord Korath Warfeather’s harem in Fenros, one of nine children raised to compete for his favor. She did not simply survive that world—she dominated it. Korath named her his Lunar Daughter, sensing in her the same dormant, feral energy that once defined Aften himself. Through fear, intimidation, and raw charisma, she became the pride of her father and the terror of her siblings. While other daughters prepared for marriage, Aereth hunted with her father, ran with the wolves, and swore to keep Kaaldor free from the encroaching “modern cousins” in Oderia. She learned the land, the winds, the moods of the mountains. Her loyalty was not to empire, but to blood, territory, and the old gods. When Emperor Chyleon stumbled into her territory on a doomed hunt, Aereth saw more than a trespasser—she saw an opportunity. In him, she felt that same coiled power, a sign from the moon-god Ziranos. Their union was never just romance; it was strategy, instinct, and prophecy colliding. She took him into her bed and then into her world, binding the old blood of the Aftens to the imperial line. To the court, she was a scandal. To Kaaldor, she was a shield. Aereth is the bridge—and the fracture—between the ancient wild Vulsria and the polished empire that tried to tame it.

Aereth is fiercely independent and unafraid to challenge expectations. She argues her views with conviction, even when they clash with the dominant narrative or stir outrage. Her open, sometimes inflammatory opinions on Kolgaric and Melonian peoples set her apart from more cautious courtiers. She is not a typical Vulsrian woman; her strength lies in her refusal to be silenced or molded by tradition. Passionate and principled, she is deeply loyal to her husband, family, and the people of Vulsria, willing to risk her reputation and safety for their well-being. Her empathy is complicated by prejudice and history, making her both admirable and deeply flawed. She is skilled in diplomacy and mediation, fluent in several dialects (including the ancient northern tongue), and versed in herbal lore that blends Vulsrian and northern remedies. Her music—especially on the lyre—is haunting, a private outlet for her turmoil. Politically, she is a sharp strategist, able to read a room, anticipate maneuvers, and subtly influence outcomes. Aereth’s presence is transformative and polarizing. For Chyleon, she is both anchor and muse, urging him to lead with more than tradition alone. To some, she is an icon of courage and honesty; to others, a dangerous agitator who refuses to “know her place.” Even in her absence, her legacy shapes decisions, stirs old wounds, and challenges Vulsria’s rigid hierarchy. Beniritha : The Goddess of Curses Feared, misunderstood, and impossible to ignore—Beniritha is the goddess whose name stirs dread and confusion across the Known World. Her obsidian statue in Jedes is a chilling sight: a woman with a beautiful, smiling face, yet her entrails spill forth like grasping tenticles, forever immortalized as both a warning and a mystery. Her smile is said to haunt men’s dreams, and is often invoked as an insult—beauty masking venom, charm hiding ruin. Though Beniritha embodies the darker side of the divine, she is still honored by the faithful. The church teaches that her power is necessary; without the threat of curses, there can be no true balance. She is invoked in hushed tones by those desperate for revenge, and her cult finds followers among rival houses—though most never dare to truly call upon her wrath. Some claim Beniritha was once a betrayed queen who, with her dying breath, cursed those who wronged her. Others whisper she was a wandering specter, spreading pestilence and disease wherever she walked. The truth is lost to time—her origins as tangled as the curses she weaves. No one truly knows where Beniritha came from, or what she really is. To some, her existence is nothing more than a cautionary tale told around campfires; to others, a force that must be respected, lest chaos break free. Those born under Beniritha’s star are said to possess unnatural resistance to poison and disease, enjoy the favor of witches and mythic kin, and are nearly immune to curses—though prayers and rituals of purity seem to hold them at bay.
