I'd go even further and say that calling music "generic" is lazy. There's *always* a more constructive and interesting way to phrase that opinion then just saying "it's generic". That says nothing on its own.

music is often scrutinized with “does it bring anything new to the genre? does it push any boundaries?”, and it kind of bums me out to think about that, because what if i DO just wanna make some self indulgent shit that’s been done before . it’s fun

The thing about Drake suing Spotify for boosting Not Like Us is that Spotify *does* boost songs in their autoplay algorithm. They do it all the time. Million Dollar Baby, Espresso & Lose Control all benefited from this, and that's just the really obvious examples.
