Most of my jobs are local-ish, but then every once in a while I get a job down in Silicon Valley and I always forget how much of a nightmare the traffic is. I really need to start charging portal-to-portal for jobs like this.

On the plus side I got to work with a robot arm for stills, which is […]

Took a chance on a new YouTube channel going over the history of image formats. Lots of splashy graphics, a little light on technical details, but a reasonable overview. Until they got to JPEG, when they mentioned metadata, specifically GPS, where they say you could be accidentally sharing your […]

After repotting my monstera I noticed that it’s looking a little sad, so I did a quick search and the top result is basically the perfect botany joke:

“Yellowing leaves are often caused by overwatering, underwatering, …”

Yes, thank you internet article, that’s really helpful

(except that I […]

You know what I would like to read a very thorough blog post about, or even a YouTube video if it, were good enough? Managing custom symbols and footprints in KiCad. I've tried a couple different methods, and both are Very Annoying and don't seem like the best way to do things.

Originally every […]

Not having the best luck with this new ink. I'm beginning to wonder if the viscosity of the ink (or something) doesn't play well with my technical pens. I may also need to do a more thorough cleaning

Projects dealing with third party hardware are cursed. First there was my GPI Controller which behaved oddly when used with a specific brand of $5k video reference monitors. Now an $8k medium format digital camera doesn’t play nice with HyperFocal

I am absolutely not being paid enough to have […]

This is more than a little ridiculous, especially considering my browser is up to date

I’ve been meaning to repot my monstera for ages, it kept sending roots out of the old pot, and I finally swung by a local nursery and picked up a bigger pot. When I got it back I thought it was way too big, but once I pulled the roots out of the old […]

The project I originally wrote my own TIFF implementation for is finally happening… it took not quite the full morning to fully implement

On set with a client today who, like many others, builds their shotlist in Google Sheets with information manually pulled in from disparate places and plenty of errors because of it. Making changes isn't difficult, but provides more opportunities for mistakes because the data is organized […]

Well this is fun! I think I may have just found my first-ever macOS regression that fundamentally breaks one of my apps 🙃

Whelp, it finally happened. A user reported what may be a Tahoe-only bug in one of my apps. Time to spin up a VM and see what the issue is, you know other than someone running Tahoe

Finally used these itty bitty canvas boards I’ve had stashed away for ages. The surface is a little rough for the technical pen, but it worked well enough

My quick passes at figuring out how to represent an n-degree Bézier as drawn by de Casteljau's algorithm with either cubic or quadratic curves have not worked out, so does anyone know the proper way to do that?
January 10, 2026 at 1:58 AM
Trying to not quite debug, but unify my Bézier curve implementations, and oh boy Are There Options.

The blue line shows a cubic curve with control points at the points of the light grey line, and a center point halfway between the control points.

The […]

I want to get a better sense of some test plots while I work on the project, so I’m doing something deeply silly: plotting onto my reMarkable tablet

Went into Venmo this morning and it told me I had two notifications, I click on the little bell icon: nothing.

I refresh, force quit the app, this doesn’t load.

Finally I turn off Wi-Fi and it works.

Their notifications page must have been blocked by my PiHole as advertising/tracking nonsense

I was getting a little annoyed by how annoying it was to iterate on projects in SwiftGraphics, so I built a little viewer application. Now the project, usually a SPM executable, can render an image and notify the app. Which will then show the image […]

It would be nice to be able to conform to protocols with stored property requirements in an extension just for organizational purposes. Maybe something like `inline extension`, restricted to the original module, that could tell the compiler to treat the extension as if it were in the original […]

I build kind of a weird workaround with a wrapper object to add styling to shapes that conform to a Drawable protocol… in the library… that I wrote…
