I’m Emma Willis, and I’ve been lucky enough to work as a TV presenter over the years. I also had the chance to present The Circle on Channel 4 a couple of times and, more recently, started co-hosting Love Is Blind: UK on Netflix with my husband, Matt.
True. Sad but true

Charlie Kirk embodied much of what I fight against: dishonesty in politics, misogyny dressed up as “family values,” and rhetoric that pits people against each other along racial and cultural lines. I will never respect those ideas. I will defend the principle that they must be countered with truth.

What this moment demands
• We on the Left must show moral clarity: disagree with every fibre of our being, but condemn political violence in all forms.
• We should resist imported culture wars.
• We must protect democratic debate, even when that debate is painful or frustrating.

Turning Point UK exists precisely to bring America’s style of culture wars here on gender, race, immigration. I worry that his assassination will be used to fuel grievance, to paint conservatives as victims, and to delegitimize peaceful progressive activism here in Britain.

From a UK perspective: This tragedy doesn’t feel far away. In Britain, we have felt the sting of political violence too: Jo Cox and Sir David Amess paid the ultimate price. These killings shook our country, and they remind me now that once violence enters politics, nobody is safe, left or right.

My opposition to Kirk’s politics was and remains absolute. But assassination is not justice. It is not accountability. The moment someone is killed for their words even words we consider hateful it undermines the possibility of a society where disputes are resolved through reason and solidarity.

His words often belittled women, dismissed the struggles of minorities, and dismissed progressive movements as dangerous. I believe he spread views that harmed public debate rather than enriched it. And yet, his violent death is something I cannot condone.
