Screenshot of a text. I live 2.5 miles away from Gaza. Of course, this place lots its innocence. October 7th left it's mark on this place which remained untouched but signs of gun shots at the gate, knowing the cowards ran away when they saw one man in army uniform. They were too studio to find alternative ways to go in other than the entrance gate, we walk around seeing how vulnerable we had been, seeing the non existing walls around the kibbutz, you can just walk through once they've bombed the border wall between Gaza and Israel. But luckily, their pure ignorance saved us. This place felt like a paradise before October 7th, now it's a paradise that's lose its innocence. And it's not due to lack of shelling or wars in its past. This place already healed, and the shelling was funny to us, the monthly reminder that they exist and the monthly admiration of the success of the iron dome. Now this paradise feels bizzare. As the roses bloom and the oranges taste so sweet, the shock waves shake our windows every other hour. No matter how justified this war may be, living close by to a humanitarian crisis causes a strange feeling of uselessness. I'm not a soldier or aid worker. I just make music and jewelry while people around me grieve, die, and sing. We walk around every night petting cats and hearing students singing songs about love and peace while I'm planning my future in America. Words could never comprehend the contrasts of our lives. And this place is still blooming, lively fresh air desert animals and some of us are still alive. We fight for a peace only we desire. We dream. We make our ambitions come true. This is what it means to be Israeli.
