@chronicillness.bsky.social Have to wear a dress today. Hence begins the latest viral challenge: velcro hand splint vs tights/pantyhose (ugh, I hate that word). 3, 2, 1 - GO!

Sitting in a corner of an operating theatre between cases planning the next talk for the next conference. The teaching work that I do is unpaid. In Australia, surgical academic pursuits are still very much done after hours outside paid clinical time. Which begs the question, why am I doing this?

Need advice. If someone outside Australia is commenting on Australian Indigenous material (art, music, etc), is it appropriate for them to perform an acknowledgement of country at the start of their video, blog etc?

Sold a Story has a new mini-series. We found a high-poverty school district where nearly every kid can read well. They’ve been teaching the same way for 25 years. But a new law, inspired by our reporting, put that at risk. All three podcast episodes are out now.
What if I told you that in a small, rust belt city, where abandoned buildings line the streets, kids are doing better in reading than in some of the richest school districts in America? www.youtube.com/shorts/KsBNf...

One of my co-authors with living experience of ABI, Stephen (known as Scoop), said when I told him this had been published: "We are now all international authors and no one can take that away from us" 🙌🙌

Giving people a platform to share their voice rather than speaking for them is the way forward.
