Lush setting for a conference I must say - by the capital's only chalk stream, the River Wandle

At UK River Summit - lots of talk about the government's review of the water sector, in coming weeks and about the unfolding drought.

Hmu if you're hear & want to chat!

Let's circle back to the Alliance's launch in 2019 - by the American Chemistry Council & others.

Two months later the ACC wrote to the Trump administration during a UN assembly where the idea of a global plastic treaty had been proposed.

As you can see, the idea was quashed - until 3 years later.

So why does this matter now?

Final talks for a UN #PlasticsTreaty are opening in South Korea & the Alliance are there, as they've been before.

At the last talks, they held events & a huge exhibition in the hotel directly next to the summit, promoting what they see as solutions to the crisis.

Equipment is broken & collections are dropping off. Some local people have taken to burning plastic outside.

There are also fires at the dump, creating smoke that enters residents' homes at night.

And the facility can't process the waste fast enough.

The government-managed landfill takes waste from the area & what can't be processed in the new facility.

It's now bigger than when the Alliance's project started.

It's quite big:

First up, who is the Alliance to End Plastic Waste?

It includes oil & chemical firms, packaging & consumer goods companies. We obtained new data on five of these companies: Exxon, Shell, Total, ChevronPhillips & Dow.

In five years they made 1,000x more plastic than the Alliance has cleaned up.
