This is the case ***even*** when people realized the image wasn't real 🤯, and effects are stronger for male 👨 than female 👩 candidates

What about debriefings in Misinformation Research?

✅ Only specific debriefings reduce belief in false info
⚠️ Both slightly reduce belief in true info
🧠 Only specific boosts perceived learning
🟢 Only general reduces manipulation & frustration
🔍 Both increase transparency

Existential AI risks do **not** distract from immediate harms. In our study (n = 10,800), people consistently prioritize current threats - bias, misinformation, job loss - over sci-fi doom!

We conclude that media literacy tips should aim to both induce a healthy dose of skepticism in misinformation while promoting trust in reliable information too!

We tested whether these 👇 three types of tips were effective at improving discernment and trust. All of them improved discernment, but only trust-inducing tips increased trust in traditional media 🗞️

As misinfo is rare and more news is reliable, do media literacy tips boosting trust in true news work just as well as ones promoting skepticism of false news? Yes! And as a bonus, they also boost trust in the media! 🗞️
