In October 2022, the U.N. Special Rapporteur reported receiving information about the "systematic" killing of 430 migrants at the border in at least 16 incidents between January and April 2022.

Nadia Hardman, the report's author, mentioned witnessing "killing fields" with bodies scattered across mountain areas. She stated that since 2022, there has been a "deliberate escalation in both the number and manner of targeted killings."

Approximately 750,000 Ethiopians are estimated to be in Saudi Arabia, many of whom have fled economic hardships in Ethiopia and the ongoing conflict in the Tigray region.

The Ethiopian government and Houthi officials in Yemen did not provide comments on the matter. The U.S. State Department expressed concerns about the allegations and urged the Saudi government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.

In response, a Saudi official stated that HRW's allegations were "unfounded and not based on reliable sources." Saudi authorities also refuted allegations made by U.N. officials in 2022 that border guards systematically killed migrants the previous year.

HRW claims that these attacks on migrants, who used remote mountain tracks to cross into Saudi Arabia on foot, were "widespread and systematic" and that the "killings are continuing."

The evidence was compiled from testimonies of 38 Ethiopians who attempted to cross the Yemen-Saudi border between March 2022 and June 2023, as well as from four relatives or friends of migrants.

HRW released a 73-page report detailing these allegations. The report mentions that Saudi guards used explosive weapons to kill some migrants and shot others from close range.

For freedom is the most valuable treasure of a nation, and the Lebanese youth are determined to safeguard this treasure.

While this transformation in Lebanon concerns many, it’s a reflection of the dynamic and mutable nature of the society. The persistence of the youth in this culture war promises hope for the country’s future.

The cultural clash is felt in various domains, from cinema to sexuality, from international financial backers like George Soros to pop culture. This is not just a transformation of a society, but a reshaping of the soul and character of a nation.

In 2019, these voices of freedom-seeking were attempted to be silenced by some dark powers. However, consecutive tragedies only brought these voices back, louder. The youth of Lebanon, suppressed with energy for years, rose again.

Their calls declare that no one has the right to dictate how they should live, love, or watch.

Under the influence of the modern world, especially those who have lived in the West or have been inspired by global freedom movements, the youth are taking to the streets, yearning for independent thought and lifestyles.
