Here to promote an idea I call Universal Credit Scottish Mitigations, catchy name huh? See pinned thread and new blog https://ucscottishmitigations.blogspot.com/
Opportunity to protect those children from the benefit cap too? bsky.app/profile/emma...
If the Scottish Government had proceeded with its plan to mitigate the!2 child limit, these payments would not have been subject to the benefit cap. I hope the UK Government will make the necessary data available to the SG so that it can mitigate the cap for those households affected.

Hoping Scottish lobbyists might consider this request bsky.app/profile/emma...

Please could you also consider this slightly niche request as well? bsky.app/profile/emma...

The SG already has a mechanism for mitigating the benefit cap through discretionary housing payments, so with the necessary data they could easily support those families who risk missing out.

Hi Helen I hope you’ll be lobbying the Scottish government to keep this promise bsky.app/profile/emma...
It’s the UK budget this week and the Scottish Budget in January. If Rachel Reeves announces the abolition of the 2 child limit on Wednesday then we need to hold John Swinney to this promise. www.gov.scot/news/fm-remo...

Hi Katie I hope your Scottish colleagues will be making sure John Swinney keeps his promise and spends the money he saves not having to mitigate the 2 child limit on additional poverty measures in Scotland.

The Scottish Fiscal Commission have set out how much it would cost to mitigate the 2 child limit in Scotland, with today’s news this is how much the Scottish Government has extra to spend on child poverty. fiscalcommission.scot/wp-content/u...

I don’t think those arguments were ever made in good faith.

We already have Scottish choices but that only changes payment timings and who it goes to, it would be great to be able to top it up in various ways too I think.

It really is, bedroom tax and lha rates too. This is why I think the Scottish Government should try to persuade the uk government to allow us to add to UC for Scottish claimants. So we could have an enhanced regime in Scotland over and above the bare minimum UK one…..

Plus 5 week wait, young person penalty, sanctions - the list is long. The whole system causes destitution by design.

Also it’s a shame people focus so much on the 2nd without thinking about the benefit cap which also needs to go.

If the uk government announce anything short of fully scrapping the 2 child limit then in my opinion the Scottish Government’s response should be to ask for it to be done fully in Scotland through Universal Credit and offer to pay the difference.

The SNP should say now, publicly and in writing to the UK government, that should Labour decide to implement anything short of a full reversal of the cap, then they want it mitigated in full for Universal Credit claimants in Scotland and they will pay the difference. 2/n
