They're heavy and difficult to move - they're all over the place here and I've come across ones in distress that are asking you to move them because they've fallen half off the pavement - I can tell you they're chunky beasts and I'm not disabled or particularly weak

Bikes can't use zebras so a toucan with immediate green for pedestrians would have a lot of utility

This stranger dad and my dad then had a mutual admiration conversation about these suitcases and how easy they were to identify on the carousel because no one else seemed to own them. We never saw another twin of our suitcases ever again

Grey is uncommon too in my opinion - my family had grey suitcases when I was little and the only time there was confusion - was when this other man came and said to my dad “those are our suitcases”, which was incorrect but only because he, like us, had never seen anyone else have these suitcases

Especially since there are several other original village names which are maybe more elegant - Bradwell or Walton or Woolstone or Willen or Linford or Broughton - all are now areas of MK but it was MK village which got the crown

I thought the same except John Milton and John Maynard Keynes - I’d been living in MK for about a year before it really clicked in my brain that it couldn’t be true

Wow that's cool that you managed to measure it and totally fits with my sense of frustration at watching the cars drive on while I have to continually descend and climb extra hills!
October 26, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Another discouragement to cycling is that it requires far more hills than anywhere else, because you continually have to dip down to cross (with no priority) minor roads while the cars just carry on over a bridge - having an ebike really helps!

Also LEO data only goes to 5 years after graduation, and different careers have different income slopes. (Plus how much do you trust the data - there's a bigger gap between Oxford and Cambridge English grads (medians £37.8k and £33.2) than Oxford vs Hull Economics (£39.8k) which seems...unlikely)

At nearby stations to me, anyone with a set of spanners could remove the cycle stands from the official station parking area, because they're not sunk into the concrete. Also there are signs up saying you can't park ebikes due to fire risk

Snap I have always had this exact same problem! If Bari Weiss got you back with your ex-wife - that would be weird

And even at 5pm, the cashier at the shop might try to sell you a 10pm sandwich, just to see if you notice that you can't actually eat the sandwich for 5 more hours

Your resistance may be futile!

FYI that Paul Krugman put the softbardcore Everybody wants to rule the world (classical Latin) in his newsletter a few weeks ago

Isn't it just open vs locked? So no implication that there is a service happening at the time of this cartoon, but gives the idea that it is an area where a building can be left unlocked for people
August 11, 2025 at 4:50 PM
(This is not it's fault but) the travel times also assume you can park literally anywhere - someone once told me that the time it would take to cycle to our work was too long, using Google maps, but had taken no account of the 5mins they had spent walking from the car park to our office building

I buy multiples and I also sew multiples - when a shirt pattern works, why not make 5 different versions with different sleeves and fabrics, incl some as shirtdresses? It's happened slowly, and wasn't a plan, but I always keep pulling out my fav patterns again and again

How do you deal with the water going "off"? I do have a couple of big bottles of water but they're now past BBE and I feel conflicted about wastefulness of buying more and chucking the old. I don't drink bottled water so can't rotate like with food... not sure what best water-prepping plan is.

Plus delivery from £1.50-£2! My US friends gobsmacked that supermarket delivery could be so cheap

I had read the reviews and knew it wasn't the play for me, hence hearing about this second hand

Was the medical incident an actual faint? My friends went and their "fainter" was just a man who went very white, and the play was stopped and he was ushered out even though he didn't want to go. Made me wonder if the ushers have a very low bar for "fainting"

I decided I can live with an unaesthetic chair in the house, and have a wool blanket thrown over the back when chair not in use (or covering my knees when chair in use)

I've watched youtuber Rachel Maksy do a slipcover for an office chair and was not tempted even though I've slipcovered a sofa - office chair looks much harder!
