But somehow the streets of every major US city being lined with homeless people still hasn't become a blink in the eye of priority.

An apology? Your debts have yet to be paid, my friend. It might be closure for you, but I am still embarrassed by and ashamed of the debt our country owes to you and your family. The years you'll never get back. The places, time and people you missed. Normally you could at least sue for that.
