Interesting.

It depends on the city. Right to shelter cities have few of their homeless population sleeping on the street. Cities like Portland without this right have half their population on the street.
December 6, 2025 at 6:29 PM
Does the city council want to talk about the plan for the unsheltered folks, since a number of you don't like the mayor's plan?
December 5, 2025 at 9:20 PM
the left wants the economics of the period and the right wants the cultural aspects and never the twain shall meet again in the US imo
December 5, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Let's not forget the county. The "new plan" presented by D1 councillors is a rehash of what is already being done with SHS money
December 5, 2025 at 8:04 PM
Agree, and it is maddening to watch!
December 5, 2025 at 7:04 PM
Well in my opinion this is my point.
December 5, 2025 at 7:03 PM
So what about the unsheltered? This plan is not about the unsheltered.
December 5, 2025 at 7:02 PM
The first line "Portland City Councilors have spent the past 11 months allowing Mayor Keith Wilson to roll out his solutions to the city’s homeless crisis without criticism or impediment" reflects my own point.

East Portland councilors unveil $21 million proposal to address homelessness
Three city councilors introduced a proposal Wednesday to redirect $21 million in recently-identified, unspent city housing dollars toward programs that keep people from becoming homeless.

yes! they don't seem to talk to him when they have the opportunity at least in the public meetings
December 5, 2025 at 6:54 PM
her post above contains "and have thoughts on how to address homelessness/housing beyond Wilson's strategy"
December 5, 2025 at 6:52 PM
They have not discussed their objections and alternatives to the mayor's plan.
December 5, 2025 at 6:49 PM
This also reflects the sectarian DSA wing which is not inclusive and welcoming in the sense Mamdani is. The NYC chapter is different from Portland's.
December 5, 2025 at 1:22 AM
I've noticed the DSA only represents small interest groups. I think the charter was meant to usher in politics not designed for the greater good.
December 5, 2025 at 1:21 AM
Watching their meetings they have not addressed this subject with the mayor and without.
December 5, 2025 at 1:08 AM
Support.
December 4, 2025 at 11:57 PM
They've had close to a year...where have they been
December 4, 2025 at 10:18 PM
Dude is much more popular citywide than any one city councilor.
December 4, 2025 at 10:17 PM
Everyone needs a band-aid here.
December 4, 2025 at 4:26 PM
If anything the lack of sales tax should draw travelers who want to go to a Uniqlo (please?!) or Zara etc and yes a few independent & unique small stores as well.
December 3, 2025 at 5:24 AM
Kids clothing in independent boutiques is pricey. Your model is what lloyd center kind of tried in the last couple years.
December 3, 2025 at 5:22 AM
Downtown has always been a mix of chains and nonchains like any city in the world. Impoverished or failing towns lack these. Portland is not special and we are not going to sustain solely small independent boutiques. Most independent shoe stores have folded. We have no chain kids clothing stores left
