The conversions have community approval. No-one wants a decaying unused building in their neighborhood, especially since we have a housing crises /7

Developers here have been doing this for decades, so there’s lots of experience doing this in the market. So much so that office blocks are now being repurposed too /6

My building was converted in the late 1990s, so it’s not nearly as energy efficient as more modern apartments but it’s still a good place to live. /5

The developers have to abide by the same stringent standards as new builds, so they’re as comfortable to live in as contemporary purpose-built housing. /4

The churches aren’t converted by the church committee. They’re sold to developers. /3

Zoning laws encourage, sometimes even mandate, areas to be mixed use. Turning unused non-residential buildings into homes is encouraged. /2

At one point I had 2 teenage boys going through that phase. I was doing a 'big grocery shop' twice a week and I still couldn't keep up.

My bf has just told me that ProRail in the Netherlands has a system with a heat pump that pumps warm water through the rails. Considerably less dramatic but also probably less wasteful.
