Lovely woodland walk this morning. Shame bathing the two dogs afterwards takes longer than the walk!

I cannot express how happy this news has made my family. So grateful for the team at UCLH for their HD research.
🤞 a trial for stage zero HDYAS will be in the pipeline soon.

@clairewarrior.bsky.social hope you're well? I have a random family history question that you may be able to help me with (as it is maritime related). Would you mind if I messaged you about it?! Thanks, Emma x

Formby asparagus and pinewoods being overtaken by dunes...and now back home to the revolting 6 marker!
June 8, 2025 at 9:44 AM
Gosh that was a long day. Started revising with Y13 biologists at 8am (drop in for random last bits of help) and they left at 12.50 to go to the exam. Then an afternoon of teaching before Y12 parents evening.
Just time for tea and toast before bed!

Bit of wildlife on Formby dunes this morning. Enjoying this long lazy weekend before marking mocks!
Off to visit our soon to be 21yr old at uni tomorrow since we won't get to see him on his birthday midweek. 🥰

Do any biologists know how the mechanism of exocytosis allows the two phospholipid bilayers to fuse and become one? My cleverest student has asked and they're trying to think of explanations. Is it charge driven or is there a more complex mechanism at work?

Succession on a picnic table today at Martin Mere! Beautiful mosses and lichens. @wwtworldwide.bsky.social

Despite mock marking most of yesterday, today has been a lovely one. Ainsdale dunes this morning (the tide was in!) and Martin Mere after lunch.

Nice example of viral vector for gene therapy (and considering why only one eye treated)

My first college Ofsted week has started with a restless sleep...better get up and get started. Roll on Friday. 🤞

Not ready for this alarm at all. So much for getting up half an hour earlier each morning until today! 😬

I'm finally finished! We went til 8pm with parent meetings but tomorrow is wellbeing day and I get to turn off my morning alarm and wake up naturally (bladder or dog, which first I wonder?!)
Good luck to those of you with another get-up.

Parking this question here (as I'm at a Christmas concert tonight) from one of my Y12 students. Anyone got an answer? TIA

"You know how enzymes are induced fit so slightly change shape to become complementary, do you know if antibodies do the same thing? Or are they like exactly complementary?"

These might be the reason I make it through to the end of term now!
Normally buy one each weekend but this time I've got one in the freezer too, for the day when I can't get through the week without one. #LagomBakery #CardamomBuns

@mosssafari.bsky.social nice to see you on here...I've been slowly finding all my people again!
Moss Safari tomorrow with y12 as long as we don't end up with a snow day. Lots forecast tonight.
Got my moss in ready so it doesn't get too chilly!

Needed to cheer myself up after this crappy week and a dreary Saturday sky. Sorted Porto for May next year. Just a few nights with blue skies and a catch up with my gorgeous sister who will be there then too. Serendipitous timings of my half term and her tour dates! 🥰

Absolutely agree with all that's been said here. It's the one complaint I used to get a lot in my previous role and it was always class teachers trying to juggle too many "essentials", many of which were window dressing.

Lovely autumnal walk this morning. 🥰

Aurora visible last night, even with street light pollution. Sent pics to son at uni who took all his housemates outside to photograph it too. They were amazed. Guess I'll have to tell them when to wave at the ISS too now! Son is used to this... housemates will surely be impressed?! 🤣
