I made so little my first 10 yrs teaching (in the 2nd largest CO school district), my income qualified my kids for Medicaid every year. After they no longer qualified b/c I finally made a living wage it was still hundreds per month cheaper to buy insurance plans than to add them to my employer plan.

Same - raised evangelical, had no idea I'd been indoctrinated with extremist ideology until my civics teacher was frank with me and said my views were considered radical right wing.

Their lives have to get really shitty for an extended period of time. And Dems have to demonstrate they can make it better.

I think staying away is 100% the right call. He thrives on attention, doesn't matter if it's positive or critical. Making this a poorly attended event is the best way to throw him off.
