Feel free to choose first class on international flights. Often the seats are in individual booths of some kind, or maybe lie flat. You can get any level of service you want to pay for.

The tickets in the cheap section were twice as much as they are today in constant dollars.

If you don't fit comfortably in the bargain seats which cost far less than the cheap seats did years ago there are generally options for more legroom and wider seats available. Look into it.

I think that visa was later when she was connected to some powerful men. Before that she worked on a tourist visa, although it's likely that most of her pay was in cash.
