🚨 Our new paper has found that #microplastics from a range of sources such as clothes are contaminating invertebrates across 51 sites in Sussex, England which are eaten by predators such as 🦔. Funding from @hedgehogsociety.bsky.social #plastics @sussex.ac.uk 🚨

Just a few of the microplastics we've been finding in the beetles and bugs eaten by hedgehogs. Great to be joined by almost 200 people for this morning's webinar about our research @emilyzoologist1.bsky.social @ptes-org.bsky.social @biologicalrecording.co.uk 🦔🌍 #plasticpollution #hedgehogs

Really depressing to see that despite all the research which proves the damage plastic is doing to the planet, the wildlife and us that the global plastics treaty negotiations have stalled. We need to stop prioritising petrochemical companies over environmental and public health

Delighted to have a piece about our recent research paper on the BBC today(online and on TV)! We found plastics in a third of soil samples, 12% of invertebrate samples, 24% of snails and slugs 🐌and 30% of earthworms 🪱. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... @fionamathews.bsky.social
Plastic in every level of food web, say Sussex scientists
The university study analyses more than 580 invertebrate samples from 51 sites across Sussex.

A pretty mosaic? Actually 403 bits of plastic removed from the stomach of a dead shearwater chick. Startling new research using proteomics suggests multi-organ dysfunction is linked with plastic exposure. #plastics #birds #health #wildlife www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
