the most overlooked, thought-provoking part of the Gates memo, IMHO

All five of these DAC units are currently installed at Deep Sky Canada. I visited last week to see how it all worked in person, and learn how the company was able to get it all up and running so quickly. heatmap.news/carbon-remov...

Most public transit systems depend largely on fare revenue to fund basic operations, but ridership never recovered after the pandemic. I wrote about 3 major transit systems that are facing a fiscal cliff, and the somewhat lackadaisical political response to the crisis. heatmap.news/politics/chi...

The post-pandemic dip in gasoline consumption in California is pretty stunning

Very relevant to my recent reporting on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol's overhaul of its rules for corporate emissions accounting:

Republican AGs are now accusing Big Tech of greenwashing by buying unbundled RECs.

$15k heat pump, potentially very exciting, but I have questions. Jetson claims "no home visits needed." That raises 🚩🚩 for me, as the #1 rule with heat pumps is accurate sizing. This company is doing ducted systems, too, which I understand are extra difficult to get right. 🔌⚡

Methane-hunting satellites are driving attn to super-emitters as a climate problem. But those plumes also contain hazardous air pollutants. An impressive new mapping project uses the satellite data to illuminate the public health risks from super-emitters. Story here: heatmap.news/climate-tech...

Also a little scoop buried in here about what the hell might be happening with the rest of DOE's grants (i.e. h2 hubs, DAC hubs, and many others...)

NY State is scaling back Empower+, which funds home energy retrofits. These boom and bust cycles will set us back on building an experienced workforce to electrify homes. Same thing happened after the Recovery Act.

The latest on Cleveland Cliffs' Middletown plant, which was awarded up to $500 million by the Biden admin to replace its blast furnace with a green steel setup.
Still unclear if DOE will use industrial decarbonization money to fund a new coal blast furnace.

What the heck is going on with the IRA rebates? Well, they're still alive and kicking... sort of. Most states are stuck in a holding pattern due to the DOE's ongoing funding review. This map gives you an idea. Much more detail in my story. heatmap.news/energy/home-...
