I went to Canal and Bowery off the Manhattan Bridge to take photos of the crash site for work on Sunday morning, and found this banged-up white Infiniti instead of the Chevy Malibu that I'd seen pictures of in other news reports.

It was a separate crash, in the exact same place.

It feels surreal to see Streetsblog’s hard work recognized not just as finalists beside outlets like Newsday and ABC, but as award winners. Thank you to the Deadline Club for understanding that the future of news is continuing to meet people where they are, no matter the format, and trusting that this doesn’t mean compromising on the journalism and mission behind what we do. I’m so proud to share this award with Dave Colon, David Meyer, and Sophia Lebowitz, without whom these videos couldn’t exist. Their reporting, and that of the entire Streetsblog staff, is the backbone of our small but mighty video operation, and shows just what a newsroom powered by collaboration is capable of. In the 11 months since I joined the staff, our multi-media strategy has spread Streetsblog’s AWARD WINNING reporting far and wide — occasionally to the point of earning us threats of violence from our critics, including those in power. This recognition by the Deadline Club and the larger Society of Professional Journalists underscore that the work we do matters, and it makes a difference. It might just make all of the death threats worth it.

imo the main problem we're encountering is that the park loops are still designed with cars in mind, *especially* the crossings.

i'm not a park designer, but it seems that crossings like this would make more sense as to not mislead peds into thinking that the reds in the park are observed/enforced
