Also, if Senate Dems allow this CR to pass, forget about holding a DC fundraiser anytime soon. You think we’ll keep giving you $$ when you let our teachers, cops, and Metro workers get laid off en masse?

Ha. Nope.

It’s not too late for other Senate Dems vote no. I’m not optimistic, but still asking.

And ask yourself: where is your line? You know they won’t stop at mucking w/ DC. That they’re counting on your inability to rally for anyone outside your state. So: if not now, then when? 9/

I’ve served in two Dem White Houses.

And I’ve never been more disappointed in my party leadership than I am today.

Today Senate Democrat leadership sold out my kids, my neighbors, and our rights, because they were afraid of Republican talking points.

Shame on them. 8/

When you preemptively cave to bad-faith arguments, you just encourage more bad faith.

But even worse: you lose the opportunity to rally people to your side. To give them something to fight for. To say “you are worth fighting for.” 7/

Republicans control the federal government. They wrote the CR, designed the strategy. They bragged abt it at every step, like Bond villains who can’t shut up about their plotting.

We could have made them own this. It would have been hard. But @schumer.senate.gov didn’t even try 6/

It’s obvious BS. Republicans know it. Dems know it.

But Dems are too scared of Republicans trying to pin a shutdown on them. Which, sure, Rs would absolutely try.

But a lot of voters wouldn’t buy that. A new Quinnipiac poll today makes that clear 5/

Duh, DC is not a federal agency. As I told an R staffer today, pointing to a table of 2nd graders, “these look like federal workers?”

But also: it’s DC tax dollars! Not fed $. Can you imagine the screams if Biden had frozen state $ for police and schools in, like, Houston? 4/

For those not steeped in this fight: the Republican CR contained a provision that treated DC as a federal agency, and so froze our city budget to 2024 levels. Problem is, we’re already halfway thru our FY (starts in October). So the CR= $1.1B in DC taxes we can’t spend. 3/

Our message: DC families know a shutdown would be horrible. DMVers would arguably be worst hit— after we’ve been enduring DOGE, layoffs, and the general misery/chaos that is DC under Trump.

We were willing to endure that & more if our leaders grew a spine and had our backs. 2/
