Poet, Victorianist, cries easily at movies, general-purpose nerd. Montréalaise. She/her/elle
I feel the same way about the guinea fowl on this bottle at the ROM (image courtesy of the ROM!)

I love to imagine some woman in Meroe, 1800 years ago, wandering past a potter's stall in a market and thinking 'that is a stupid-looking bird, I love him, I must have it.'

#arthistory people - this lovely sculpture is utterly raw on the back. Is that because it was originally mounted on a wall? Was it maybe part of something bigger?

They're both currently in the Northern Hemisphere, and IIRC India drifted north from the south, so I'm taking it they were around the time? (map shows current antipodeal point and closest city for the Yucatan, with my addition of the Deccan Traps very approximately in a green scribble.)

Here is Dr. Goodall at the Fauna Foundation (source: their facebook page).

If you're looking for a way to honour her, I bet she'd be thrilled with this one.

I forgot I had a bowl of whipped cream in my fridge and just look what a gorgeous colour whatever is growing on it is! (Yes, it's also gross, yes, I will be cleaning things well.)

That particular website excludes several Christian sects from the definition of Christianity.

On the other hand, the definition given does not state that you have to actually DO anything. On the contrary - the faith is all that matters, and there aren't any rules.

As an adult, the more I have learned about other people's mothers, the more grateful I am for mine. Here she is on her birthday, on a field trip with the kindergarten class she's volunteered with since she retired from teaching. The kids ADORE Mrs. Fleming. What a ripple effect she has.

I have never been so worried about them in my life. Five years ago today I picked them up from the airport, and I still pick them up every time I can, but that was the Best Pickup Ever.

My sister and I even made a sign and wrote our names ("Emily, 35 11/12") on it.

Delayed a bit of entropy this evening. Not as much as I'd have liked (the plasma machine made some unhappy beeping noises and didn't give me back my hemoglobin, so I had to stop) but enough to be useful.

If you are staving off despair and filled with a need to do something, anything, this works.

I have been cheering on the snow in its attempt to cover my balcony door.

Decided to channel some of my rage at the state of things into reversing just a tiny bit of entropy. (Did you know that in Quebec, you can donate plasma weekly?)

The book lives, somewhat bent, to fight another day.

Ooh, same price in CAD! (And on Kobo if you would prefer to avoid Amazon!)

This is one of the books that I regularly recommend to people interested in getting into science fiction. Also great if you're ALREADY into it.

Hi! So when I'm uploading a picture, it looks like this. See how in the top-left of the image, there's a button that says "+ALT"? That's there on desktop and phone (just checked). Clicking or tapping that will open a box where you can type in the image description.

Spending my morning being useful and bleeding into a bag. (Second time! I was ineligible until recently.)

I hate needles and am super squeamish, but so happy this is a thing I can do. Highly recommend giving blood if you are able.
