Our #NSFFunded team worked w/ Leah + Brooke for the past 3yr to build a #SciArt dialogue and I'm so thrilled with the outcome. Leah's piece will be featured one more time this Sat 10/25 at the UW-Madison Geology Museum open house (9am-1pm!) and will be permanently housed there later this year!

Madison pals! Join us on WEDNESDAY! I'll be joining my #PhD mentors, Annie Bauer + Tyler Blum, in conversation with Leah Evans, a local textile artist who has been producing a piece about scales of space and time for the #UWGeologyMuseum! #WIScienceFestival #ScienceArt wid.wisc.edu/event/crossr...

Who knows what this feisty toddler will actually be passionate about when she grows up, but I couldn't help but smile at this smallest geoscientist t-shirt from our friends @txgeosciences.bsky.social. She may be a midwest baby, but our Texas roots run deep! #Texas #Hookem #Geology #Geoscience

Very angry + sad about continued cuts to scientific $ in the US. My spouse is a scientist for a fed agency, I work in academia; the onslaught is exhausting. Science can be expansive + reflective of our best efforts as humanity. Remind your reps that supporting science makes America great. #NSFFunded

Honored to have one of my #PhD papers featured in a recent #CAMECA blog on #Geoscience applications! Big thanks to collaborators in the #WiscSIMS @uwmadscience.bsky.social for their innovative method development (funded by #NSF & #ERC) that made our work possible!

Super interesting question! There are a variety of models out there, including thermal constraints, proportions of reworked v. juvenile crust in the zircon record, etc. They do generally assume present-day unity. Fig. 10 in this review (2022) is nice: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

32 was a big year! I saw some cool stuff, became a rock doc, started a new job in #geochemistry, and above all, gained a new aspect of my identity by becoming a mama. Cheers to fostering curiosity, joy, & moments of calm with those we love in the chaos of life. Onward to 33! #ScienceMama #PhDone

My first U-Th columns! Feeling lucky to have a post-PhD job where I get to learn new-to-me #geochemistry + facilitate cool #science as a #labmanager + #researchscientist. #SLEUThLab

Many new #geoscience faces! I'm a #rockdoc #isotope #geochemist. I've worked on #geochronology spanning Quaternary-Archean. I recently got a dream job managing @drandreadutton.bsky.social #SLEUThLab. (views=my own). I'm a human + cat mama. I love: mtn biking, running, snacks, board games, books!

From boxes to bench assembly! Exciting times in the #SLEUTHLab! Day 1 of the install for our Nu Plasma 3 is in the books. Three more weeks of tinkering to come! #isotope #geochemistry

As a fun little 'side note' to this work: I wrote this paper last academic year while pregnant, got reviews back the day my daughter was born, and defended my PhD when she was 4mo old. Big thanks to my family and mentors for making this juggling act positive and possible. #sciencemom #academicmom

Differences in zircon Hf & O isotopes & whole-rock chem suggest these 2 locations had different mantle sources & crustal thickness, but both had early hydrous melting. So, hydrous melting isn't restricted to the garnet stablity zone-there may be a significant role for amphibole!

We found that crust at Acasta and Saglek was likely formed by melting hydrated basalt, confirming previous studies which identified an important role for H2O in forming early continental crust. This hydrous melting was operative as early as 3.9 Ga in both cratons!

Variations in U-Nb-Sc-Yb can distinguish btwn zircons formed in different modern tectonic settings. We used in situ SIMS techniques to measure O isotope and TE from Acasta (4.0 Ga) and Saglek (3.9 Ga) to look for a proposed transition in tectonic style during the Archean.

Zircons are durable minerals found in many of the rocks that form the continental crust. Because modern tectonics leads to destruction + recycling of crust, #zircon is useful for deciphering geologic processes on the early Earth, where the whole-rock record is sparse or altered.

This is one of my PhD chapters and wouldn't have been possible without the #WiscSIMS & UW-Madison ICP-TIMS labs, sample sharing, collaboration, & mentorship from co-authors @uwmadscience.bsky.social @carletonu.bsky.social, University of Ottawa, and funding from NSF and ERC!

New paper out in PNAS featuring #zircon #geochemistry from two of the oldest fragments of continental crust! People often talk about a transition from stagnant-to mobile-lid tectonics during the #Archean, but our results reveal early tectonic diversity! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

I defended my PhD yesterday! The last 4 mo have been wild: I also became a mama to a spunky baby girl & started a job managing @drandreadutton.bsky.social’s #SLEUTHLab! Research scientists were integral to my PhD so I am thrilled to have this role. Stay tuned for final PhD papers + new lab pics!

Wow this is cool. Here we are in the year 2024 (from a friend of mine, a female postdoc). A wild idea to prevent this: Simply. Send. The. Invitation Email. To. Your. Whole. Group. See? Not that hard.

WHAT A WILD science day visiting the Smithsonian NMNH! It was an honor + joy to present my PhD research on Archean zircon geochemistry, engage with kind + interested researchers, and see some truly STUNNING collections. Huge thanks to Mike Ackerson for the invite + generous hosting! ⚒️

Very rapid & cool work from @edmarshall.bsky.social & colleagues at Háskóli Islands on the new volcanic eruption in Iceland! Similar MgO & TiO2 content to historical and prehistorical eruptions in Svartsengi, but K2O/TiO2 comparable to late erupted lavas during the 2021-23 Fagradalsfjall events. ⚒️🌋
