Catholic. Lifelong Midwesterner. Good at sewing and canning and stuff, so sometimes I have to dye my hair blue so people don't mistake me for a tradwife.
Which isn't to say that you have to care about it, but that's why it's part of the American Catholic DNA, and really why Notre Dame isn't just another mid-sized Midwestern religious college, and also why we've got a chip on our shoulder about being Independent.

Long history there. The short answer is that ND only rose to national prominence in the first place because the anti-Catholic Michigan coach shut us out of the Big 10, forcing Rockne to play teams cross country (thus USC/Army rivalries). Sort of a cause célèbre of the Know-Nothing era.

On the sweater washing question: hand knitters will often use Euculan detergent, which contains lanolin and thus conditions as it washes, or just use cheap hair conditioner (wool is pretty similar to hair, after all). Roll it in a towel and walk on it to get the water out without damage.

This dovetails with my broad social theory that the stereotypical "dishthrowing fight ↔️ seething passive-aggression" continuum maps neatly onto how much of the year you can comfortably storm outside afterwards.

All those bellows pockets are a real labor of love. I just did my first ones for a Halloween costume this year and they are way more fiddly than a regular patch pocket.

I googled to see if lite crescent rolls in a tube exist, and it seems they do, so my money's on that. *shudder"

Is that just ... bare macaroni noodles?

I've also gotten at least two wrong varieties from Baker Creek (pole beans that were supposed to be bush beans, and seed fennel instead of bulb), so there's another reason to stay away.

The way those borders move, that sounds totally legit to me.

I don't even need real meals, just guaranteed no pat-downs and no overnight delays, which are what really governs my clothing choices.

I literally said, "I hope Derek roasts the hell out of this guy," when I saw the story, so thanks 🫡

If I make something more than once, I copy it on a card or print it out. Partially because I don't like cooking off a screen, and partially because of this.

He pulls out that Newman quote every couple of months, wherever he needs to combat the respectability=the right clothes discourse. I'm looking forward to Lewis going into that rotation, too.

I don't think I'm allergic to fake sugars, but they seem to cause my body to think I'm actually eating sugar and send more insulin along, which results in a headache. I do okay if there's some sugar/carbs and the fake stuff is only part of it. Still tastes nasty, though.
