Senate floor just wrapped so I have to run back over to State Affairs soon. Bless the House Elections Committee for hearing this bill first so I only have to be in one place at once

There's a lot of discussion about ballot secrecy today. Here's (part of) why... www.texastribune.org/2024/05/29/t...

I testified against HB 952, which would put a "unique identifier" on mail-in ballots. I like the idea, but I think I need more detail in the bill to make sure that mail-in voters won't be disenfranchised! My full testimony:

They've already said that they need to make a new time of gun super-extra-legal so that their children can practice shooting with it

Toth says that Hart acknowledged to NBC News that there are modems in their vote tabulators. Durheimer rejects that soundly. Toth makes a fake news joke. I lose my mind

Vice Chair Bucy: How many voters in Texas have securely registered online through DPS?
DPS:
March 6, 2025 at 7:37 PM
They completed over 3 million voter registrations in fiscal year 2024. About 1,600,000* were in person at drivers license offices, and 1,350,000* of them were online!

* I think I got those numbers right but my brain scrambles numbers so don't quote me

Rep. Swanson is back on voter challenges. She wants to know what kind of "personal knowledge" is good enough to challenge a voter's registration and get them cancelled. Adkins says it's good enough to look at post office boxes of people you don't know, but not to just guess. See SOS op:

Rep. Hunter says only 14 pages contain changes unrelated to committees. He says he thinks committees are duplicative, and he abolished a bunch of them. Skyler Korgel made this helpful guide!

I'm not going to sing when I see Wicked tonight because I'm not a monster, but I do think Alamo Drafthouse should have a little soundproof booth in the lobby where you can go belt Defying Gravity after the show (mockup below)
