Named for the county in which it was first found, lanarkite is a lead sulphate which forms from the oxidation of galena.
A common place to find lanarkite is in mine spoil heaps - galena rapidly oxidises when exposed to Scottish weather!

The manganese oxide (cryptomelane ) at Grandhome was mined in the early 1800s as an oxidising agent for making muriatic acid - then used as a bleach.
The mine closed by 1858 and today the site is inaccessible.
