Longer run: by voting for the bill, Republicans are committing to the biggest deficits outside economic turmoil or wartime. OBBBA explodes the debt by $3.4 trillion over the next decade. Debt crowds out private investment, lowering GDP growth, productivity growth, and wages.

13.7 million fewer people would have health insurance because of the House reconciliation bill, letting ACA enhanced subsidies expire, and Trump admin actions. How many in your district?

Trump's tariff flip-flop yesterday was hardly a reprieve for Americans. We'll be paying 25% to 125% taxes on most goods from three countries that make up ~45% of U.S. imports and paying 10% on goods from others.

Say, that's a really nice NWS office you've got up there in Caribou, Maine. Sure would be a shame for the forestry, fishing, and emergency management in state if DOGE got rid of it and Susan Collins didn't intervene.

Here's how the Republican-proposed funding cuts and Medicaid coverage losses (h/t @urbaninstitute.bsky.social) would hit in AK, AZ, CA, CO, NE, PA and elsewhere. Thanks to my colleagues @saraestep.bsky.social, @nzmurphy.bsky.social, @andreaducas.bsky.social and Natalie Baker for the analysis.

For example, Project 2025 in its HHS chapter called for policy to "encourage unmarried couples to commit to marriage" and for a child support tax credit to men to affirm fathers's traditional role as breadwinners.
