When did it become OK to not show up for a meeting or an event?

I'm not sure what changed, but it's a trend I'm not a fan of. In my latest post in the Phoenix Business Journal, I take a look at when it's OK to skip and when you should show up.

There is a lot of change going on, and the pace keeps picking up. It's hard. But I keep talking to people who are working to try and avoid complaining (like me) and well... read the article and then share with us how you are trying to find ways to adapt.

Not a lot of deep thought or introspection on this week's UWTO. More a data dump/fact check on some of the justifications for the current non-strategic reductions in the US Federal workforce and possible play to shift tax revenue to the oligarchy.

If anyone still thinks he is not destroying the rule of law, here is proof from him that he doesn't care about our laws. That he is above the law.

People say it's lonely at the top, but it doesn't have to be. If you invest in friendships with time, empathy, and emotional capital, the returns will be off the charts.

What part do friendships play in your business life?

Visiting Tucson and went to Polish Cottage for dinner.

So good. Simple food. Gotta love a cabbage stew.

The apple cake was perfect. Not too sweet. Not too tart.

We got one of those birdfeeders with a camera, not the one that has been filling your ads. It’s actually kind of cool. We’ll see if we care in a month or so.

I found a little bit of peace the other day just listening to the world around me. Nothing more, nothing less.

Woke up this morning wondering if today was the last day of representative democracy in the United States of America.

That was followed by a strong hope that I was wrong.

There are few times in my life where I've wanted this badly to be wrong.

Today I'm getting serious about planning for #startrekthecruiseVIII. I'm a bit apprehensive because we are in the Mirror Universe cabin at the aft of the ship. Someone grabbed our usual one before we could and so we are in the same cabin, but starboard side. Should I start shaping my goatee now?

A recent cartoon from @thenewyorker.bsky.social inspired me to think a bit more about focusing on things we can change and my ongoing (if futile) battle with entropy. Check out my latest Unsolicited Weekly Thoughts and Observations (#UWTO) on #Substack: "Unloading Dishwashers and Little Victories"
