I was ready to be wooed until he brought up the sneakers example with the tariffs. Saying that most businesses will willingly eat up their profit margins is naively wishcasting at best and dangerously disingenuous at worst.

It's very easy to be binary: Everyone who disagrees with me is [insert slur here]. But if you think that of your fellow voters and citizens, they may think the same about you. No wonder manichaeism started in the Middle East.

I find it fascinating how we still attach the trappings of common sense, consistency and decency to this president. If they continue their program, he'll bomb them again and think nothing of it. Everyone will shrug it off, just like they've shrugged off the thousand other things he's done...

‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." Ez. 16-49.

The Fourth Protocol had a very interesting premise (the novel by Frederick Forsyth was also good).

Nothing says reconciliation like a dinner with Wagyu beef, pork medallions and onion soup. That will go far with these two and will wash away the age-old enmity like COVID-19 by Easter.

While archaic and very much frowned upon (especially by the RAE), habemos is accepted in many quarters.

I think German institutions felt closer to the NDSAP, at least in its opposition to communism. Notice the leniency of courts towards nazis compared to communists. Can't fault them much given the USSR's horrors, but they firmly thought they'd chosen the lesser evil. In hindsight they chose wrong.

Yeah, but we're talking about two different things, because even though K was a resident Alien, he was a Saudi national, and again, this happened overseas. What we're seeing is an overall disregard for established and legal procedure that impacts millions of people.

Ok, but I don't think it's apples to apples. I'm saying that to revoke a legal alien status (residency) status, ICE has to go before an immigration judge to request it. Kashoggi's murder happened in Istanbul inside the KSA embassy.

Under all previous administrations, regardless of party, unless they put him in front of an immigration judge, who is basically a USCIS employee.

She had her chance when he was indicted. That would have been probably justifiable back then. But not now when the indictment's been withdrawn. It would be overreach.

Sorry, this is just ugly and chilling. I hope you’re wrong

I think the comments are on to something. As anyone who’s been part of an extensive federal probe will tell you, the process is the punishment

Somewhat OT, but wondering if the so-called malaise speech aligns at all with your current critique of the American public as coddled and self-obsessed. I know it sort of called out consumerism, but looking back it does seem as if it somewhat fits your thoughts on the current state of affairs.

After some years of working in publishing, I came to realize a reporter's clippings and printed portfolio were meaningless, since there was no way of knowing how deeply the original copy had been salvaged by a good editor.
