Some of my notes from my trip to the West Bank last month.

I haven’t really had the time to comb through them, but what struck me immediately was how profoundly bleak my outlook was.
Just drove past Nur Shams and saw the damage from the air strikes (5:15pm). It's fucking crazy. Like shell holes, blackened buildings, the tarmac has been stripped from the road by the military. Everywhere in area c is just a profound sense of loss. I don't know what we can do but I know we can't do nothing. It's fucking horrible. settlers came and attacked their water infrastructure again. You don't really think about the reality of protective presence, because sometimes it's like what the fuck are we protecting, they just do this shit anyway, and they do often.

The standard of meals was well below that of our home in Baghdad and the hotel in Nicosia, but the older ones among us were far too polite to say so. Vilma, however, who was barely two years old, was less inhibited. One dinner, served by Sabiha soon after our arrival, consisted of thick slices of black bread with tinned sardines mashed on top. The sardines were oily and smelly. Vilma pushed the plate at Sabiha and said accusingly 'Hatha akl? Hatha khara!' - 'Is this food? This is shit!'
