That’s a cool question! I’m not sure every baseball field needs a roof but I think weather resistant designs or better drainage systems could help reduce the delay without the extra construction materials and energy needed to build a full roof.

It’s good to see sports taking on a bigger role in becoming more sustainable and helping the environment. For example the 2024 Paris Olympics reduced their carbon emissions by 54.6%. They also promoted accessible public transport and introduced plastic free polices.

Manuel Neuer wore a rainbow armband during a game and was immediately investigated by the UEFA for displaying a political symbol even though he was just supporting LGBTQ inclusion. This shows how quickly politics have entered sport and the control governing bodies have over personal expression.

This article shows the negative consequences of media. Anyone can become a reporter which increases the pressure and anxiety that athletes feel as they have no more privacy. Athletes stop being seen as normal people and are treated like celebrities with hate and criticism.

This article shows how crowd violence harms footballers safety and performance as they deal with flares and missiles being thrown at them. They accept this violence in silence scared it might worsen abuse or job opportunities. This shows how normalized violence and masculine ideals silence them.

Good point! I think it’s interesting that the same system that criticizes deviant behaviour also encourages it. Fans and coaches reward success but punish methods people use to get there.

In 1968, at the Mexico Olympics, Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised black glove fists during the US national anthem protesting racial inequality and human right abuses. This violated the social norms and they under conformed to what was expected of them causing them to be kicked out.

Tom Daley, a British diver, challenged gender norms when he was seen knitting during a women’s diving final at the olympics. By enjoying a hobby that is usually seen as feminine he redefines masculinity and shows that self expression doesn’t have to be limited by traditional gender roles.

I agree that turning your passion into a profession is a huge advantage. At a recent KIN day I met with professionals who are passionate about their active lifestyle and are lucky to have jobs that support that. But not everyone has that money or freedom to pursue what they love.

As a kinesiology major, I see how staying active is vital but working full time limits free time and flexibility. School had set activity time but now factors such as kids and chores reduce options. It is important to find activity in daily life like walking instead of driving or home workouts.

I would define a sport as a physical activity that involves both physical effort and teamwork. I would consider competitive dancing a sport as it requires skill, training and competition. However dancing casually for fun I would consider more as a leisurely activity.
