Azerbaijan arrests main opposition leader Ali Karimli, his advisor Mammad Ibrahim and several other associates. This will effectively end any non-systemic opposition presence in the country, following total eradication of independent media & civic organizations. Towards full-fledged totalitarianism.
We are extremely concerned about today’s actions lead by the National Security Agency against the leader of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Ali Karimli 🇦🇿

French citizen Hugo Théo Clerc, sentenced in September 2024 to 3 years in prison for graffiti in Baku metro, was pardoned by presidential decree today.

His imprisonment was widely seen as political amid France–Azerbaijan tensions, as two co-defendants received only fines.

Still having a hard time to digest @ulviyyaali.bsky.social's arrest. She is the latest victim of Azerbaijan's ongoing repressions - reminiscent of Stalin's. She is now suffering from injuries from torture she faced during detention.

@washingtonpost.com story:

She covered human rights for VOA in Azerbaijan. Now she’s in jail.
Ulviyya Ali reported for Voice of America for years. Trump’s moves to dismantle the U.S.-funded outlet may have put her at greater risk, activists say.

Dozens of #Azerbaijani exiles marched in Strasbourg over the weekend, calling for the release of political prisoners — including opposition figure #TofigYagublu, who has been on hunger strike for nearly a month. The march concluded in front of the Council of Europe headquarters.
